The 6-seeded Volunteers got a combined 16 points and nine assists from their starting guards Bishop Boswell and Ja’Kobi Gillespie in the first half as they opened up a 36-31 lead over the 3-seeded Cavaliers.

Cyclones defense stifles Wildcats in second half
While without its second-leading scorer and top rebounder Joshua Jefferson, Iowa State brought the intensity and forced 20 Kentucky turnovers en route to an 82-63 win, sending the Cyclones to their third Sweet 16 under head coach T.J. Otzelberger.

While the Cyclones led by just a point at halftime, they came out of the locker room full-throttle and pulled away from 7-seeded Kentucky in the final half for a 19-point win.
