Cayden Daughtry, Class of 2027

No player has had a more impactful summer than Daughtry. The 6-foot point guard found different ways to score at will as he guided his team throughout the tournament. Even when they lost in triple overtime in pool play to the New York Rens, Daughtry answered with a 35-point performance against UPlay Canada. Daughtry made history when he set the Peach Jam single-game scoring record after recording 43 points in the 84-83 loss to the New York Rens in one of the craziest Peach Jam games in recent memory. The buzz around Daughtry was electric all tournament long and he capitalized on every opportunity.

“Obviously I’m a little tired,” Daughtry said. “But just knowing that I’m here for a bigger reason, my coaches and my teammates, and I just want to win so I’m going to do whatever that takes no matter how I’m feeling.”

He went on to average 34.8 points per game, shattering the Peach Jam record that was previously held by Cam Thomas (29.5). In the Peach Jam finals against Drive Nation, he posted 33 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the 71-60 win over Drive Nation.

Antonio Pemberton, Class of 2027

No player was more electric at the adidas 3SSB Championship than Pemberton. After hitting the game-winner against powerhouse Compton Magic, he didn’t let up and averaged 31.2 points per game in the playoffs. Pemberton fell short in the U17 Finals when he met a very tough New Heights team that swarmed him every single time he touched the ball. He was still able to get off shots for 33 points in the 66-64 loss, but he went 10-for-27 from the field and the New Heights guards made it impossible for him to get any good looks. North Carolina head coach Mike Malone and two assistants were sitting on the baseline along with Boston College head coach Luke Murray and assistants from Marquette, Kansas, South Carolina and Michigan State.

Kamari Whyte, Class of 2027

Whyte had the impossible task of guarding Pemberton all game and did an excellent job, limiting his touches on offense and even blocking a shot. He knew the game plan coming in was the first line of defense, jumping to the ball and anticipating Pemberton’s first step. Whyte has excellent positional size and used that to his advantage against the 6-foot-1 Pemberton in head-to-head matchups. He was the player of the game as New Heights took home their first 3SSB Championship and played his best game of the weekend on Sunday. The 6-foot-4 guard finished with 20 points (7-for-14 from the field), six rebounds, two assists and one block in the 66-64 win over Mass Rivals. Whyte reclassed back down to the 2027 class and will play his senior season at Blair Academy (New Jersey). He took official visits to Marquette and Georgia Tech in June and also holds offers from Virginia Tech and Villanova.

Kamsi Awaka, Class of 2027

Awaka was the Defensive Player of the Year on the adidas 3SSB and he showed why in the title game with five blocked shots, nine rebounds and 10 points. He was guarding Pemberton off the switch and moved his feet extremely well for his 6-foot-9, 230-pound frame. The guards for Mass Rivals couldn’t get anything going to the rim and the help-side defense was anchored by Awaka with how well they rotated off ball movement. Kamsi is the younger brother of Tobe Awaka, who played his senior year at Arizona before being picked up for Summer League by the Chicago Bulls. Kamsi was a critical piece to the championship team and Mass Rivals had no answer for how he maneuvered in the paint on both ends of the court.

Hudson Hatch, Class of 2028

Hatch was the unsung hero for Team Loaded as they reached their first 3SSB Championship in program history. The 6-foot-10 forward is a dream scenario in the pick-and-pop and had the game of his life against Midwest Basketball Club. Team Loaded made a second-half comeback and the game came down to the wire with Midwest going up by two points with five seconds to go. Hatch set a ball screen and popped right away and didn’t hesitate on a 3-point shot that went in at the buzzer. He finished with a team-high 18 points (5-for-7 from three) and was a program hero for nailing the biggest shot in his career. Hatch holds offers from Oklahoma State, Richmond and Charleston but expect other high major programs to get involved with his smooth jumper from long range and fearlessness to hit big shots with the game on the line.
