Trail Blazers and Kings unveil jersey band to honor Rick Adelman throughout 2026-27 season
The Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings honor Hall of Fame coach Rick Adelman, who passed away in June, with jersey band.

The tribute honors Rick Adelman’s immense impact on both franchises. The Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings will honor late Hall of Famer Rick Adelman with a band on their jerseys throughout the 2026-27 season, the teams announced today. Adelman passed away on June 1, 2026, at the age of 79.
Adelman was a member of the inaugural Trail Blazers team and later led the franchise to Finals appearances in 1990 and 1992 as a coach. With the Kings, he guided the organization to eight consecutive playoff appearances and a franchise-record 395 regular-season victories. He also played for the Kansas City-Omaha Kings during the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons.

“Rick Adelman’s impact on our franchise extends far beyond the court,” said Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis. “He built a culture of excellence, inspired generations of players and fans, and helped shape the identity of both our organization and our city. Wearing this commemorative band throughout the season is a meaningful way to honor his extraordinary legacy and contributions.”
“Few people have had as significant an impact on the Trail Blazers and Rip City than Rick Adelman, and his influence will continue to be felt for generations,” said Dewayne Hankins, President of Business Operations, Portland Trail Blazers. “We look forward to carrying this tribute on our jerseys throughout the season and coming together on December 15 to honor not only what Rick accomplished, but the remarkable leader and person he was.”
