Inter Miami, LA Galaxy Reportedly Interested in Signing Manchester United Midfielder Casemiro This Summer

MLS clubs Inter Miami and LA Galaxy are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United midfielder Casemiro upon the expiration of his contract this summer. The Brazilian announced last month that he intends to leave the Premier League in June, after the club opted not to trigger a one-year extension option.
Reported Interest from MLS Giants
That two of MLS's biggest clubs are interested is of little surprise. The defensive midfielder, who won every major trophy at Real Madrid, is viewed as an ideal fit for the league. Both teams have a need: the Galaxy lost Riqui Puig to a second ACL surgery, while Miami has yet to fully replace the retired Sergio Busquets. The news was first reported by The Athletic.
Some Salary Cap Magic Required
However, MLS restrictions could complicate a move. Neither Miami nor LA currently has an open Designated Player spot, meaning they could not immediately offer Casemiro a contract matching his stature. Inter Miami’s three DP slots are occupied by Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and German Berterame on multi-year deals. The Galaxy will have a spot open only in 2027. Casemiro would likely need to accept a significant short-term pay cut to join MLS.
A Mixed Manchester United Tenure
Casemiro’s time at United has not gone entirely to plan. After a storied career at Real Madrid, his $80 million move in 2022 coincided with a period of struggle for the club. He has made 155 appearances and won two trophies in three full seasons, but United have faltered domestically and in Europe despite heavy investment.
An American Trip This Summer
Casemiro already has plans to visit the U.S. this summer. He remains a key figure for Brazil under new manager Carlo Ancelotti and is expected to feature in upcoming friendlies. Meanwhile, Manchester United sit third in the Premier League with seven games left, aiming to secure a Champions League return.
